Chairman's Letter

Hello Friends,

It is hard to believe we are nearing the end of the year. Post election, we’ll be keeping an eye on the new administration, its policies, the economy, and their impact on business.

Houston innovation is getting attention. Time Magazine recently listed three companies as providing life-changing technologies. Those listed included the BiVacor Total Artificial Heart, FervoFlex by Fervo Energy (horizontal drilling technology) and NanoTech Materials’ Insulative Ceramic Particle, which can be integrated into other materials to improve heat resistance, reduce heat penetration, and even reduce HVAC use by half.

As for real estate, Houston has jumped back in the top 10 on the Urban Land Institute and PwC’s annual ranking of the real estate markets to watch in the coming year. Landing at No. 3, it is a significant jump from the previously held ranking of 11, out of 81 markets.

There are corporate expansions, relocations, and renovations happening. MD Anderson announced that they’ll be expanding in the Texas Medical Center as well as in Sugar Land. NRG will be relocating its downtown headquarters to 3 Houston Center at 1201 McKinney in an effort to offer more amenities to employees. And months after announcing the relocation of their headquarters to Houston, Chevron will embark on a multimillion dollar renovation of their space at 1500 Louisiana.

According to the latest job data, Houston created nearly 12,000 jobs in September. The modest gains are most likely a sign of slower overall growth expected through the remainder of the year, says the Greater Houston Partnership.
