KIPP Texas Celebrates 25 Years

KIPP Texas celebrated its 25th anniversary of helping students in underserved communities attain a quality education with a special dinner event last month that raised $1.3 million for the organization. Just ask Bill Boyar about KIPP Texas and witness his enthusiasm and passion for the organization as he cites the statistic that four times the percentage of KIPP students go on to graduate college compared to their counterparts, which are public school systems serving students from low-income communities.

Bill serves as chair of KIPP Texas Public Schools, and prior to the merger of all KIPP Texas regions into a single district, was chairman of the Executive Board of KIPP Houston. Last year he was given the KIPP Extra Mile Award for his leadership and commitment to the organization and helping the four regional KIPP networks in Texas merge to form KIPP Texas Public Schools.

Now a single statewide public school district, KIPP Texas serves 27,700 students — 25 percent of KIPP’s national student population — across 52 campuses in Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio.

“If given the opportunity, all children can learn and achieve at a high level,” said Bill. “KIPP’s goal is to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and character strengths needed to succeed throughout their education and in the competitive world. It is very rewarding for me to be a part of this positive change.”

Bill said KIPP Texas ranks among the top 50 largest school districts in the state.

“We have strong leadership within KIPP Texas, as well as a visionary and committed board,” said Bill. “The plan is to continue our growth so we can serve more students and make an even larger impact with educationally underserved communities across the state.”
