I agree to receive communication from BoyarMiller via email.(Required)

Sharon GallowayTell us about your role at BoyarMiller.

I am a Business Group legal assistant for four shareholders, and my duties include some paralegal type duties, as well as help provide mentoring to other legal assistants within the firm.

How many years have you been with BoyarMiller? Tell us about your background.

Bill Boyar and I came to the firm in June 1990, but I began working for Bill Boyar in March 1978 when he was a two-year associate at a downtown Houston law firm. After he joined the firm, the predecessor firm name changed to Boyar, Simon & Miller. After Leonard Simon, former Shareholder, left the firm, the shareholders decided to permanently adopt the name BoyarMiller.

My first legal job was in Louisiana, and I worked at law firms in Lake Charles and Metairie for about seven years before moving to Houston.

Please comment about your thoughts on the legal industry as it relates to your role at BoyarMiller.

The legal industry has changed in many ways since I first began working as a legal “secretary”. Some law firms still hold onto the old school [antiquated] separation of attorneys and staff, where nothing other than business interaction is allowed. BoyarMiller made the decision to have an inclusive law firm on all levels, where staff and associates are treated as equals, firm events are attended by everyone, and input is welcomed.

What do you enjoy about working at BoyarMiller? Can you say something about the company mission, values, and culture?

In my 30+ years at BoyarMiller, I have seen the attorneys counsel many clients with transactions that were major turning points in those businesses. Everyone does whatever it takes to get it done to meet the client’s needs, and all clients are treated with consideration and respect. The shareholders have established an atmosphere of mutual respect with all employees, and they have implemented initiatives to address concerns of women in business, minorities in business and others. They also participate in many charitable organizations to help make Houston a better place for all to live.

How do you spend your time when not working?

I’m an animal lover and I participate in several animal rescue organizations to help save the lives of homeless pets in Houston. I also enjoy interior design and the arts.

Tell us something people might not know about you.

Although my skills are currently a bit untapped, I am an artist and have done oil painting, and I am a seamstress. Before throat surgery, I loved to sing, and I sang in a cappella choir in high school and in church choirs.
