KIPP Texas Establishes Award in Recognition of Bill Boyar’s Service

HOUSTON (10/3/2024) – KIPP Texas announced the creation of The Bill Boyar Chasing Excellence Board Award in honor of BoyarMiller Co-Founding Shareholder Bill Boyar. The new award was named in honor of Boyar’s dedication during his former board service as he was known for relentlessly pursuing excellence in education. Boyar served as the Founding Chair of the KIPP Texas Board of Directors (2018-2021), Chair of the KIPP Houston Executive Board (2015-2018), and he held many other positions on the KIPP Houston Executive Board since joining in 2011.

The Bill Boyar Chasing Excellence Board Award recognizes schools that have significantly raised their ratings by two or more letter grades. The prestigious award celebrates the exceptional efforts of teachers, staff, and students whose hard work, commitment, and innovative strategies have transformed their schools’ academic performance.

The 2024 award was presented to three schools at the KIPP Texas Board of Directors meeting in September: KIPP Austin Brave, KIPP Somos Collegiate, and KIPP Un Mundo Academy. The annual award will recognize schools every year in conjunction with the September KIPP Texas Board of Directors Meeting.

Boyar’s law practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and commercial real estate, representing the various parties involved in the acquisition, disposition, capitalization, and financing of assets and businesses on a national and international level. Bill served as Chairman of BoyarMiller from 1990-2010. Today, he continues with his law practice, mentoring business leaders and lawyers, and actively serving the Houston community.
